A similar smug expression grew on Marcus's face as he watched Charlie basically bask in the triumph of winning their little race. He would let her win this time. Almost entirely joking, he looked down at her and said, "Stop boasting, it's unattractive." No one said he was the most gracious loser, after all. As he followed her gaze over to the clock, he took note of the time. It was obvious that Charlie should have been let out a while ago, and for Marcus, it wouldn't be unreasonable if he went ahead and left as well.
In response to her question, he answered, "Pretty much," with a small shrug. So here they were, the formerly short little boy and tall little girl, now grown up to be the freakishly tall man and the abnormally short woman. It was indeed funny how that kind of thing worked. "God, puberty was such a bitch back then..." he added to himself with a sigh and a light chuckle. "That's what you get for being one of those kids." Marcus replied humorously, now turning his attention back toward Charlie.
"Alright, alright. It's kinda funny." he admitted while nodding his head in agreement. At the same time, though, it was a tedious cycle. She hadn't gotten blood on him? Marcus had to look back slightly, for he couldn't remember whether she had or not, and he almost didn't believe her at first. "That is true," he started when he settled on the fact that he'd remained entirely blood-free during her procedure, "but the girl I was treating before you had me drenched." And then it hit him for the first time in the conversation: this was seriously a strange, morbid subject that they were taking on. Still, he had to laugh.
As Charlie stayed silent in response to his question, Marcus continued watching her, waiting anxiously for her answer. It looked as if she wanted to say yes, but as always, it seemed that she was hesitant to accept any form of help. Curiously, he raised an eye brow and turned his whole body towards her, for at that point she still hadn't spoken yet.
"You don't want to annoy me?" Had she seriously just asked him that question? If he wasn't sure, he wouldn't have asked, even if he did ask the question so suddenly. "Are you kidding?" Marcus laughed, relieved to hear that she wasn't entirely opposed to the idea. Of course she wasn't going to be intruding on his life, what was there really to intrude on? Lately, he'd just been focused on working, having her around would be a nice change. "I'll make it up to you." he told Charlie with a playful wink and a grin at her skipping dates comment.

"Wipe that smirk off your face." Charlie rolled her eyes - playfully of course - holding back a laugh that was threatening to escape from the back of her throat. What were they even talking about anymore? It seemed like they always talked about the most random things, switching from subject to subject within seconds. Charlie shook her head, putting her hands on her hips at his comment. "Stop getting blood on your shirt, it's unattractive." Charlie mocked, rolling her eyes with a smirk. Two could play at that game. After a moment Charlie went quiet, tilting her head to the side.
Charlie found herself huffing again, hands still on her hips. One of those kids? Hey, she had never asked to be taller than every other kid while growing up. It wasn't exactly fun when you were towering over people. In fact, she was actually quite glad she was short now. "You're going to get slapped one of these days, I swear." Charlie added with a cocked eyebrow, laughing. "I bet she did, though. So much blood all over you twenty four seven. I wouldn't be surprised."
Things had gone from goofing off to being serious - story of their lives. "Why would I be kidding?" She questioned, nose scrunching in typical Charlie fashion. It wasn't something to be joking about. "Well... in that case." Charlie trailed off, laughing hard. "I guess I'm moving in."

"Oh, come on. Laugh. You know you want to." Marcus argued in the same playful manner she was using when he saw Charlie almost burst at the seams by trying to stifle a giggle. Sure, maybe their conversations didn't exactly make the most sense, but he honestly did enjoy talking to her, none the less. He smirked when she placed her hands on her hips and began imitating his comments. "Stop lying to yourself, because you know it's attractive." he retorted, mocking her body language for the sake of the joke.
He himself had to let out a laugh when she once again became slightly heated over their little height discussion. At her warning, he began laughing harder. "Whoa there, tiger. I was only joking. But I'm going to get slapped, now, am I?" Bending his body a tad lower and turning his head so Charlie could get a good look at the side of his face, he pointed to his cheek. "Go ahead, then. This'll be your chance, because lord knows you can't reach from all the way down there." Marcus played it off as if her were serious, but that last bit was most definitely a joke. Hopefully she wouldn't actually slap him for that.
Straightening himself and looking over at her when the subject went back to blood, Marcus casually said, "At least I'd make perfect shark bait," before thinking about that night when he'd first met Charlie, right after that same patient that bled all over him had died. Had it really been a week ago? It seemed like just last night he was practically begging her to tell him the truth about Jacob. The time had just flown by so fast, and here she was, getting ready to be released.
Before he could answer her question, she was already laughing and making another comment about moving in, so he just decided to drop it. "I guess you are." Marcus agreed, looking over and smiling at her.

Without saying another word, Charlie simply shook her head in protest. No way in hell she was going to laugh now after Marcus had told her to. Nope. Charlie was going to continue being stubborn like she always was, still stifling the laughter in the back of her throat. Just when she was about to speak, Marcus's hands on his hips in a mocking manner interupted her, causing Charlie to finally burst out into a laughing fit in return. "Soooo attractive to have your hand on your hips, yes." Charlie said between the laughs, inhaling deeply to catch her breath.
The laughing got even louder as Charlie was curiously at what Marcus was doing leaning down like that, eyes going wide in shock. Oh god. How had they gotten onto this now? "You are so damn lucky I would never hit someone, even if I was joking." Charlie managed to get out, holding her stomach now from laughing so hard. Damnit. Her cheeks were starting to hurt. After what seemed like ages, Charlie put on a serious face, trying her best to control the laughing. "Alright, I'm good."
"You really would, wouldn't you?" Charlie commented with a grin. She still couldn't believe things had happened so suddenly, with Marcus asking her to live with him and all. It wasn't something that happened every day, that was for sure. In a way she was glad though - she would get to see him every day, and she would also be away from Jacob for the first time in her life. Finally.
"How am I supposed to go there now though?" Charlie laughed, raising an eyebrow. "You're still working. Or, you know, pretending to anyway." Charlie winked at the last part, grinning even wider.

Of course she, of all people, would do her best not to laugh when Marcus had told her to. Only her. It was funny to watch really. All he could do was look at her and let a few outbursts of his own to escape his lips as he saw Charlie try and contain herself. When she finally exploded into some sort of laughing tantrum, he was nothing short of smug. Ha. He'd won that one. She managed to get some words out, and he replied with a sarcastic, "Oh, I know you dig this sort of thing."
Just when she seemed to get it under control, it got worse. This time around, Marcus couldn't help but to all out laugh along with her, although when she spoke again, he calmed down slightly. "I would have to agree with that. You don't look like the kind of girl I'd wanna mess with." It was meant to be funny, to add to the joke, but it partly was the truth. Charlie meant business, he wouldn't take her threats lightly. "You're good? Are you sure? I don't have to sedate you?" he asked after he let one final chuckle out.
Shrugging lightly, Marcus looked at Charlie as if to validate what she was saying: Sharks would obviously have one crazy time if he were to jump into the ocean. She looked happy, to say the least. So much brighter than the first couple days Marcus had known her, it was as if now she was liberated. That seemed like the best word to describe it. And as for himself? Well, he was pretty pleased as well, he hadn't had a room mate since he broke up with his ex-girlfriend a few months ago. His apartment was a little too big after all just for one person.
Marcus found himself laughing all over again at what she said. She was partly right, if pretending to be working was really the best way of describing just what he was doing now. "I think I'm done playing doctor for the day, actually. So I'll just take you myself."

Soon the laughter had died down to where Charlie could actually speak again, rolling her eyes as she listened to Marcus. Yet again, she was going to be stubborn; as if that was any surprise. He already seemed like he had expected her to not laugh when he had told her to in the first place. What was going to make this any different? It was funny, and yet kinda cute, with Marcus's hands on his hips like that. Not like Charlie was going to admit that. Nuh uh. Nope. Instead, she did what she did best. "You wish I liked stuff like that." Charlie replied, tongue sticking out.
Was Marcus really being serious? At the sound of his words, immediately her nose scrunched up in curiosity. What exactly did he mean by she wasn't the type of girl he wanted to mess with? He must've been kidding; though it didn't exactly seem that way. "Why wouldn't you?" Charlie questioned, head tilting as well. She had to be the least intimidating person ever just by looking at her. Short? Weak? Yeah, she was so intimidating.
"Oh, so now you get to decide when you play doctor?" Charlie laughed again, nodding in approval. After all, it was his apartment, how else would she get there without him showing her? "Sounds like a plan." Charlie glanced back over through the window, sighing. "Wheel chair, right?"

At this point in the conversation, Marcus was lost as to where it had even started. "Oh, yes, how can I deny it?" He replied with flat sarcasm, rolling his eyes as he spoke. Raising his arms to fold them across his chest, he looked at her down his nose, a smug expression still playing on his features. "At least I'm man enough to admit it!" He added after a second with his eye brows raised. Marcus stuck his tongue out in much the same manner as she had. Was this what it was like to have siblings? He would never know, since he was raised as an only child, but for some reason he felt that bickering like this (no matter how light and completely innocent they were making it) was part of the package of having a brother or sister.
The room fell silent for a moment as he watched Charlie's nose wrinkle, something by now Marcus knew she did when she was thinking about something curious. He didn't realize at first why she was doing this, hadn't he just practically complemented her? Then it hit him. Did she really not see herself the way Marcus saw her? Ugh. Women. Why did the female population have a tendency to think of themselves slightly negatively? Charlie did look fragile, yes that was true. Vulnerable? Maybe so. But weak? Marcus didn't think he could ever see her as weak. To go through what she had gone through, and for as long as she had - a brief image of Jacob flashed into Marcus's mind, his teeth snapped shut in his mouth - a person would have be strong to live through that. Strength wasn't only about appearances. Whenever he'd lost his temper, Charlie just kept her head held high, as she had learned to accept her situation. To him, it was almost saint-like.
"I have my reasons." Marcus answered her question suddenly after a few more moments of silence, although he didn't elaborate. Looking down at her, he smiled slightly. To his approval, the topic once again shifted, this time to a less-serious note. "Within reason." He said with a shrug of her playing doctor question. Glancing at the wheelchair, he laughed. He nodded his head toward it. "Don't think just because a doctor is escorting you that you get to skip out on that part."

Even though they had both been through a lot the past week, things were starting to look better. They were on their way to forgetting all about this - and hopefully - put it all behind them for good. Except for one thing. Jacob was still out there somewhere, still being able to roam free as he pleased without giving a fuck about any of his actions toward anyone but himself. What if he decided to come back and find her? Surely he wasn't to keen on the idea of her moving in with Marcus for the time being. Hell, she hadn't even told him she was leaving him.
Charlie immediately snapped out of her thoughts when the cab started to pull over to the sidewalk. They were finally at Marcus's apartment, officially starting a new chapter. It was scary, really; not knowing what would happen in the future. All Charlie knew was that she had to build her entire life back up and eventually move out - not wanting to be a burden to Marcus.
"Once again, thank you for all of this." Charlie smiled nervously as she slowly slid herself out of the cab, wincing ever so slightly. Safe to say all the bruises hadn't gone away in the week she was at the hospital. "I still can't believe you made me go in that wheel chair, though." Charlie mumbled with a slight laugh, nudging Marcus in the shoulder. "Lead the way."
